Best Original Screenplay

Amour” (Michael Haneke)
Django Unchained” (Quentin Tarantino)
Flight” (John Gatins)
Moonrise Kingdom” (Wes Anderson, Roman Coppola)
Zero Dark Thirty” (Mark Boal)

Analysis
January 2013

With Looper’s many writing accolades throughout the course of the awards’ circuit, it’s been hard not to get behind a film that surpassed modest expectations. At the same time, the perceived disappointment associated with Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master has given me reservations as to every one of its awards prospects – while still very much in play; I have to wonder if the writer’s branch will vouch for Anderson’s enigmatic film.

Otherwise, the category is comprised various Best Picture contenders, with Mark Boal’s Zero Dark Thirty leading the way with what will be a likely win.
